We remember Moms and Dads who waited and served. It must have been incredibly painful to most of them. Certainly times of triumph, but generally loneliness and fear.
The Bearded One’s Dad served in the Navy, using his talents as a boilermaker to build and repair ships. His Mom waited and took care of his older brother, and later him, alone.
My Dad piloted a B17 at the age of 19. He flew 35 missions over France, Russia, Italy and Germany. My Mom followed him through his training and waited for him while her was overseas. It certainly had times of triumph and fear.
My nephew, Doug, now serves in the navy as a fighter pilot. He and his young family have experienced long periods of separation and do not know what lies around the corner. But, they…and my sister and brother-in-law…bravely face whatever lies ahead.
My sincere thanks to these men, women and families who sacrifice so much to serve.
May God Bless America and those who serve her.
