The Paperwork of Life

We had a follow-up appointment with our attorney today, the elder law attorney.

Sigh.  Sigh.  Sigh.

But, after experiencing a smooth legal transition after my parent’s deaths I want to gift my children with the same.  So let’s take care of this now and then hang around another 30 or 40 years knowing that the problem is solved.

Will.  check….years ago and revised recently.

Living Will…check..two years ago.

Health Care Power of Attorney…check…two years ago.

Financial Power of Attorney on our bank accounts…two years ago.

Long Term Care Insurance.  Check.  (hope we never need it…kind of like life insurance.  Can you afford to be wrong?)

Now, we are fine tuning.  We have placed a Transfer On Death for our home to our kids.  No probate necessary now.

We are also naming an official overall Financial Power of Attorney.  This will allow this person, if we are unable to do it, to do pretty much anything with our finances.

Next to do Transfer on Death on our vehicles, bank accounts, and investment account.  No attorney necessary, just contacting the agencies and signing the forms.

Give your family a gift.  Take care of the pain in the butt stuff so they will not need to have that pain.
