Working to Keep the Bad Stuff Out

I mentioned a few weeks ago that someone close to me who had been experiencing significant pain from Rheumatoid Arthritis and taking major chemo drugs to deal with it, had been finding significant reduction in pain in swelling (while off the drugs due to another health issue).  It has been a month now.  No medications.  Just elimination of dairy and gluten.  She is pain free.  Amazing and such a blessing.  Weight loss is another side effect of this diet but the elimination of pain without very dangerous drugs is the most wonderful effect.  I will keep you posted as this continues but I still wonder why doctors leap to drugs instead of suggesting safer interventions like diet change?

On the topic of preventing bad things….

We worked on mulching the garden today.  The first new load of mulch this year.

My kids can tell you horror stories (from their perspective) of forced labor moving steaming piles of mulch on the hottest day of the year to cover countless yards of gardens while their parents sipped Gin and Tonics in the shade.

But today, there were no kids in sight and still countless square yards of garden.

The peppers and tomatoes got a bed of mulch…

As did the okra, leeks, squash and cucumbers.

Then we went to get another load since we are still less than half done with the vegetable garden and the flower beds await their turn.

Girls?  Want to come home for a visit???

On the bright side, the raspberry crop looks like it may be the best ever.  And, we harvested some of the peas today.  Yum.  A garden is worth the work!
