Seeing Progress

The bathroom renovation continues and it looks like it is forward momentum!  Yippee!

I like the color of the paint on the walls after seeing it in all possible lighting situations now.  I installed the new light fixture and medicine cabinet.  The light fixture was easy until the final step of mounting the fixture.  Then it became apparent that the screws included (and preinstalled in the kit) were too long.  The little ball shaped nuts could not screw in enough to tighten the fixture.

So, the entire fixture had to come down, be unwired, and new shorter bolts secured from the local hardware store.  Then, all went well.  The medicine cabinet was easy peasy.

So, here it is tonight.

The color of the walls…though it is a bit more golden green brownishIMG_4912

And the new medicine cabinet and light fixture…

IMG_4914Now, almost everything is done from the waist up.  Tomorrow, I start the staining process for the vanity.  It will take several days so it may be awhile before I know whether this process works.  I will keep you posted.

For dinner tonight, I wanted something fairly easy (tired from working on the reno) but vegetarian since we have been eating quite a bit of meat lately.  I chose to roast vegetables and serve them with Savory Polenta (thank you, Alton Brown).IMG_4918

I tossed cubed sweet potatoes, chunked red onions and mushrooms together with olive oil, kosher salt and pepper.  I roasted them at 350 for 20 minutes (normally, I would have roasted at 400 but the polenta gets baked at 350).  Then I stirred it and put it back in for another 10 minutes then added kale that had been cut in large 1 inch pieces and tossed with olive oil, kosher salt and pepper.  I roasted the whole lot another 15 minutes at 400 (the polenta was out of the oven by then).

It was scrumptious!
